We choose to explore the California coastline for our spring break trip in 2003. Although Scott was sick for the entire trip, and we had to make several changes to our original plans, we certainly enjoyed the trip.

The night before we left, we added a night in Las Vegas to visit Kim's parents, who happened to be driving through. After departing Nevada, we headed to the coast, where we hoped to spend several days driving up the coast and exploring the state parks. Unfortunately, virtually all of the parks we had planned on visiting were only open to campers. Even so, we found some great areas (especially for viewing pinnipeds) and had an enjoyable time near the coast. A few days later we found ourselves in the bay area. Although we spent our next day--the day the US began bombing Bahgdad--in San Francisco and glued to the TV, we managed to get in some nice hikes in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, most notably Muir Woods NM and Point Reyes.
